In recent years, all inclusive has grown massively in popularity. It may cost a little more during the booking stage, but by having all of your meals, snacks and drinks included in the price, you’ll normally save a small fortune in expenses once you’re in the resort. Many family holiday offers are often centred on all inclusive especially for those that are happy to spend their days by the pool or near the hotel. It means parents don’t have to fork out for expensive family meals every night, and with the typically huge range of food available, even the fussiest eaters will find something they like.
However, for those that like to get out and about on holiday, all inclusive isn’t always the best option. You will still have to pay for food and drinks during your stay which negates the need for all inclusive; but in some cases, hotels may be happy to wrap up a packed lunch for you to take out as a picnic. It all depends on the hotel so it’s usually worth checking.
A particular drawback is that all inclusive actually encourages holidaymakers to stay in their hotels for the duration of their trip. Not only does this prevent visitors from enjoying the local area, it can also be detrimental to the local economy. Shops, restaurants and visitor attractions can suffer as a result, which goes against responsible tourism. However many tour operators are taking steps to combat this. For instance, although all inclusive holidays with Thomas Cook are just like any other all inclusive arrangement, the company are actively seeking ways to benefit the local area. One of their ideas is to offer vouchers for local restaurants as well as the hotel restaurant, which would encourage visitors to eat out from time to time.
For families or holidaymakers on a budget, all inclusive can be a wonderful option. But be mindful of the local area and try to take time away from the hotel, whether it’s browsing the local shops, getting out on local excursions or eating out occasionally. It will enrich your holiday experience too, giving you many more wonderful memories to bring home.
